The Salford Youth Zone has received increased support as the largest arts and crafts retailer in the UK have committed to an additional three years of patronage. 

The Salford Youth Zone (SYZ) has confirmed that another two patrons will join the development plan, pledging to donate £100,000 each. 

Developers Muse and Assura plc have committed £200,000, as a part of a four-year partnership to support the development and operations of SYZ.

The new patrons will join a growing list of pledged support that are aiming to make a lasting impact on the lives of children and young people in Salford.

The SYZ are on track to open before the summer of 2025 and will provide vital support to thousands of young people across the city.

The facility will be the newest addition to the Empower Youth Zone network in Greater Manchester, building on the success of HideOut Youth Zone in Gorton.

Opened in 2020, HideOut has been transformative for young people in East Manchester, offering a safe and inspiring space to learn, grow, and thrive.

Muse, with 40 years of experience in mixed-use regeneration projects across the UK, is joining Empower’s roster of patrons to bring its expertise to the development of SYZ, having led projects including the Crescent Salford.

Muse plans to actively engage with local young people, ensuring their voices shape the development of Salford that stretches beyond financial support, the company aims to provide training and skills development opportunities, especially in the built environment sector.

Phil Marsden, Managing Director of Muse North West, emphasised the importance of community involvement, as he said: “We’re proud to work with SYZ and ensure young people are at the heart of our efforts in Salford.

As patrons, we’ll be engaged with local young people to ensure that they are at the heart of the local community.

“We’re proud to be involved in the charity’s newest opening in 2025.”

The agreement was also pledged by Assura plc, one of the UK’s leading healthcare property investor and developer.

With a portfolio of over 600 GP surgeries and healthcare buildings serving more than six million patients, and views its partnership with SYZ as an extension of its commitment to fostering positive change in the region.

And this was echoed by CEO of Assura plc, Jonathan Murphy, who said: “As the first FTSE 250 company to achieve B Corp certification, we are dedicated to making a genuine social impact in the communities we serve.

“We’re confident the new opening will have positive impact on improving Greater Manchester’s overall health and wellbeing which we know, starts in local communities.” 

The £200,000 pledged by the developers will be significant for the youth centre as it takes one step closer to opening in 2025.

The developers will join a strong list of patrons such as Salix Homes, Fletchers Engineering, Hobbycraft who have set their goal on improving Salford’s future generations.

Together, these patrons will ensure that young people in Salford have access to state-of-the-art facilities, where they can explore new interests, build life skills, and access essential support services.

SYZ will also bring wider benefits to the Salford community, creating 70 new jobs and providing opportunities for local residents, as well as offering young people a safe and engaging space to learn, socialise, and develop.

The new site that will open in 2025 will aim to transform the lives of countless individuals while fostering a stronger community.

Following the latest agreement CEO of Empower Youth Zones, Adam Farricker, said: “Having two leading developers like Muse and Assura on board is fantastic.

“Their support will enable us to provide essential services and opportunities for young people in Salford.”

The opening of Salford Youth Zone in 2025 promises to be a milestone for the region, and offers life-changing opportunities for its young residents and strengthening the community’s future.
