Salford swimming sensation, Amelie Blocksidge, has won a prestigious swimming award after a year that seen her rise on both the national and international stage.
The extraordinary year in sport has seen the 16-year-old swimmer, continue to make herself a prominent name in the sport of swimming.
With a series of impressive performances across 2024, she has been able to have a true breakthrough year being rewarded with the Swimming Emerging Athlete of the Year title.
And by winning the prestigious Emerging Athlete of the Year award is a fitting conclusion to her sensational achievements this year.
In the summer of 2024, Amelie enjoyed a golden streak at the European Junior Championships in Vilnius, where she claimed a stunning double gold in the 800m and 1500m Freestyle events.
The dominant Salford swimmer was also able to set new age-group records in the process, showcasing her immense talent.
And just a week after her success in the pool, Amelie made a seamless transition to open water, where she successfully defended her 5km marathon swimming title, winning by 18 seconds in the race for 14 and 15-year-olds.
These victories added to an already successful year that included multiple wins at the Speedo Aquatics GB Swimming Championships, where Amelie claimed gold in both the 800m and 1500m Freestyle events.
In 2023, Amelie grabbed headlines by winning gold in the 1500m Freestyle at the British Swimming Championships, where she broke the national record with a time of 16 minutes, 19.67 seconds.
However, despite her extraordinary achievements, 2024 has not been without its disappointments.
While Amelie’s performances at national and international competitions have been exceptional, she fell just short of qualifying for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
