Swinton Lions look to bounce back to the Rugby League Championship next season and have made impressive signings to match.
The club will have the ambition of climbing back into the division after facing relegation last campaign.
In preparation the club have signed former Warrington Wolves players Bobby Shingler and Jamie Reddecliff. The former Wolves men are expected to make their debut in February, when the league begins.
Newly appointed Head Coach Paul Wood, said: “When I got the Swinton job, the first task was to build a team. And I wanted young, hungry people who had ambition, and wanted to progress in their careers”.
Bobby Shingler plays as a prop, or loose forward, and is expected to make his debut in February 2025, when the season commences.
And will be looking to make the difference as Wood says he can make a big impact.
Shingler started his career at the Priestly College development academy team, before joining Warrington Wolves for the 2023 and 2024 season.
Now a part of Swinton Lion’s, Head coach Paul said: “His pathway at Warrington, unfortunately, was limited, just because of the quality that they’ve got in the forwards. But Bobby’s got aspirations and goals to potentially play Super League.
“But Bobby will fit in because he’s just really enthusiastic. He’s coming to the setup and he’s just really pushed himself. He’s brought a lot of enthusiasm; he’s got some intensity about his training, which I’m massively promoting with the players.”
The Warrington men are expected to make a big impact on the team, as he continued: “He’s come from a good system, the Warrington system which is a tough system to be in as a young kid – you’re surrounded by some of the best kids in in the country.
“Everybody’s striving to get into the first team and push and, Bobby’s brought that to the to the team so far.”
In a promotional clip, Shingler expressed his excitement about his signing; “Hi Swinton fans, Bobby Shingler here. I’m really happy to have signed for the 2025 season and I can’t wait to see you all soon”.
Woods has his full confidence in the performance and skillset of Shingler, explaining how he came across the talent: “His name came up and I watched a few games with him in, saw some of his highlight videos.
“And he just really fitted the bill to what I was looking for. Not only had he got some size and he’s young, but he’s powerful, he can break the line, and he’s got some good defense on him as well.”
The club have also made the signing of former Warrington Wolves player Alan Redcliffe, Jamie Redcliffe.
The new signing will also be joining the ranks, and will be eagerly awaiting February 2025, when the season commences.

“I’m going to challenge them a lot in these next three weeks leading up to the Christmas period.” Head Coach Paul said, “But Bobby will fit in nicely, because he’s just really enthusiastic. He’s coming to the setup, and he’s just really pushed himself.”
