A Salford student has secured a slot on BBC Radio 1 Christmas Presenter Takeover after winning big at the Student Radio Awards.
The University of Salford student Matt Hallsworth, a presenter at the student station Shock Radio, was named ‘Best Presenter’ at the ceremony.
The young radio host was presented with award, and was announced by the head of BBC Radio 1, Aled Haydn Jones.
The win at the awards has guaranteed that Matt will be given a place among a lineup of guest presenters on the national station this Christmas.
Following the award success Matt expressed his surprise at the achievement, he said: “I went into the night not expecting anything.
“I was just looking forward to having a nice evening with a great group of people from Shock Radio.”
The shock of the night didn’t end there, as Matt also took home a second gold award for ‘Best Chart Show Programming,’ a recognition shared with his co-presenter Issy Brand.
The double victory clearly signified his hard work and talent to the radio.
As he continued: “Winning two gold awards is something I still haven’t fully processed.”
Matt added. “I still can’t believe I get to say I’ll be on Radio 1 for the Presenter Takeover.”
The annual Student Radio Awards celebrate the best in student broadcasting, with winners often progressing to major roles in the media industry.
Matt’s success not only reflects his individual talent but also highlights the quality of programming produced by Shock Radio, Salford’s student-led station.
