A new highly rated batsman will be joining Monton Cricket Club ahead of the upcoming 2025 season.

The cricket club were announced the signing of Usman Tariq, 40, who boasts an impressive record across his 25 year career.

The batsman has been able to score 8,457 runs that included stints at Leicestershire, Surrey, and Lancashire.

Monton Cricket Club will hope that he brings some valuable experience to the playing squad.

The left-handed batsman will initially sign a one-year contract, which includes coaching the senior and junior teams.

The club, based in Eccles, expressed excitement over the acquisition, viewing Tariq as a pivotal figure in their campaign for promotion.

As player liaison officer, Dan McAvoy said: “He’s got a huge amount of experience and a huge reputation for scoring runs.

“We feel with the potential of him scoring 900-plus runs this season it will help us get promoted this season.”

He added: “He’s a very knowledgeable cricketer and understands the game very, very well and his signing allows us to bring in an overseas amateur which we’ve done with Tom Willoughby from Australia.”

“He’ll bring a wealth of knowledge and experience that will not only benefit the seasoned players but also the younger and junior players we have in the team.

“Part of his contract will mean that he has to help coach the juniors but he’ll probably help coach the seniors as well.”

The signing of an experience professional seems that it will be influential to the club success in the future.

Being able to play and be coached by someone with over 25 years experience, it will certainly encourage the team for years to come.
