Irlam FC will advance into the semi-final of the Manchester Premier Cup after completing a ‘giant-killing’ after being Ashton United 4-2.

Hailed as a giant killing the home-side were able to knockout the current cup holders and multiple time winners.

Irlam were proved to be very clinical in front of goal, utilising their efforts scoring four goals from all four efforts at goal.

The night in the cup will be a memorable one for the squad, especially the forward John Johnston after he was able score a hat-trick to send his side through.

Irlam FC are the first team in the competition to advance into the semi-finals after one game being postponed at the start of the month and the other two games that have not been played.

With none of the additional fixtures completed Irlam fans will be having to wait to see who they will face in the in their next semi-final clash.

The possible teams that Irlam can play in the semi final is between Hyde United, Abbey Hey, Stalybridge Celtic and Curzon Ashton.

Irlam is a small town on the edge of Salford, and the football team wants to put there name in the hat for one of the best teams in the North West Premier Division.

But despite being a strong side in their domestic league, the Irlam players have had to battle their way through the competition.

Throughout the tournament, Irlam beat Glossop North End 3-0 and previously Wythenshawe Town.

And fans will be hopeful that this momentum can continue, with the last time they say their club win a the cup was the 1984/85 season, back then they were called Irlam Town

With there current run of form in the cup they are looking a real threat to any team they next play

But despite their success in the cup, the Salford-based side will have to turn their attention back to the league.

As Irlam FC will play current league leaders Ramsbottom United this weekend at home this Saturday.
