Swinton residents are planning to work together during the festive period as they plan to ‘Keep Swinton Clean’ this December.

The community group Salford Litter Heroes have been creating events for the past few years, aiming to create a community effort of cleaning the streets.

The cleaning project will aim to make the area a nicer place to live removing “litter and fly-tipping in Swinton.”

The event will take place on December 7, and are encouraging residents to meet at the Car Park Cemetery Road South Swinton.

Ahead of the litter pick, one member of the Salford Litter Heroes, Pete Bresnahan said: “We have a big problem with litter and fly tipping here in Swinton.

“I go out once a week and litter pick in my area. Every so often I’ll create a group event to encourage the local community to get involved and raise awareness to the issue.”

As a regular member of the group, Pete expressed his concern for the built of litter in Swinton, as he said: “There’s a massive litter problem in Swinton, we need to all be working together so we have a nice place to live.”

Those who attend will be provided with equipment, as they are encourage anyone and everyone to join in.

Residents who attend can also get in the festive spirit, wearing Christmas hats and jumpers are also optional!

Pete shared his litter picking triumphs in community groups, allowing locals to see what a difference litter picking in Salford is making.

Salford City Council currently clean up around 4,000 Tonnes of litter every year, yet the council have recently had a record number of fly tipping incidents with many residents finding items like beds and old furniture being dumped.

Community efforts like Salford Litter Heroes are helping to keep the streets clean in Salford and any member of the community can attend.
