This festive season, Salford buzzes with a variety of community, musical events across the city. From traditional carol services held in Salford’s historic churches, to candlelit concerts, the city offers a magical line-up throughout the whole of December. There are many opportunities this Christmas for residents of Salford coming up.
Christmas Concert- Eccles Library
Salford Community Libraries are hosting their annual candlelit concert at Eccles Library on Wednesday the 11th of December.
An all-female band ‘String Infusion’ have announced they will be performing at this event, who are an electric and acoustic string group that travel across the UK performing at a range of venues.
The band have successfully put on a show for Eccles library in earlier Christmas concerts, and they will be making a return to entertain the Salford community.
The evening aims to conduct of joy, reflection, and togetherness to embrace the holiday season.
Lois Jones, Marketing and Digital Library Development Officer, said: “Libraries are community hubs year-round, but we know the winter season can be tough for people to connect and celebrate so we wanted to provide an opportunity for people to do so.”
Tickets to attend the concert cost 6 pounds, and music is set to begin at 7pm until 9pm.
Salford Symphony Orchestra- Eccles Town Hall
On Sunday the 8th of December, Salford Symphony, a longstanding orchestra group founded in 1947, are performing a Christmas Concert at Eccles Town Hall.
The Chairman Orchestra Manager and Second Violinist, Simon Caplan, said; “Our audience can expect a fun-filled evening of live, light classical music and community carols.”
He added: “The concert will include a performance from our guest choir, Sleigh Rides by Delius, and Highlights from Wicked by Schwarz.”
These annual Christmas Orchestras are ‘extremely popular’ within the Salford community, Simon and his team hope to ‘fill Eccles Town Hall once more’ whilst they perform festive favourites.
This year, Felicity Cliffe will conduct the orchestra, beginning at 5pm.
Felicity Cliffe said: “I am currently studying for a Mast
er’s in conducting in the Royal Northern College of Music, so I am really looking forward to working with the Salford Symphony Orchestra.”
She mentioned: “This year marks the 100th year since the birth of Salford Symphony’s close friend Ernest Tomlinson, therefore the orchestra are particularly excited to be playing Fantasia on Auld Lang Syne”.

City of Salford Carol Service- St Peter’s Parish Church
A traditional carol service is being held at St Peter’s Parish Church by Salford City Council on Wednesday the 11th of December, at 7:15pm
They are welcoming all members of the public to join them and enjoy wonderful music services by BBC Philharmonic String Quartet, Salford in Harmony Choir, St Peter’s Church Choir and St Peter’s CE Primary School.
Refreshments such as mince pies, and festive drinks will also be available after the service.
Entry is free but it is a ticketed event with limited availability.
