A Salford organisation is inviting applications for funding from deprived youngsters to give them a chance to chase their dreams.
The Salford Foundation Trust supports children and young people by providing to opportunities for their personal development and growth including activities to support good mental health.
Peter Collins, managing trustee and volunteer, shares the importance of organisation for those who need the support,
“I am motivated because it is about providing young people with a place and a purpose,” he said.
The Trust, which first opened in 2004, supports children and young people by providing to opportunities for their personal development and growth including activities to support good mental health.
Support for music lessons, involvement in theatre groups and supplies to keep up interests under lockdown are recent examples of how they have help.
When a family’s financial situation prevents them from taking advantage of possibilities that wealthier families may naturally provide, the Trust steps in to aid.
In supporting people’s passions, the organisation has helped to build and progress many young applicants in their career and their talents.
“We are keen to see outcomes from people,” said Peter. “If someone needs funding to stay in London for a competition or needs a costume for their ballroom dancing recital that the parents cant afford, we are ready to provide that amount through applications” he adds.
Longer term, the organisation has also assisted gifted youth who would not be able to develop their abilities without our assistance, such as a competitor in the global championship for cerebral palsy.
The organsiation has supported more than 700 applicants.
“We help anybody really but before that we ask follow up questions and information exercises so that the more we have the better helps the committee,” added Peter.
The Salford Foundation Trust is a small team to minimize the cost so that as much money as possible that comes in is gone back out to support families.
“We really want to get this message out there to help a number of young people that even if they don’t want to be an Olympic athlete, they might just be a young carer that needs a break in their career, we want to help.”
The next major funding round happens at February 2025, however applications are always open.
