The Caritas Diocese of Salford has teamed up with an animation company as part of their new ‘Bee There’ Christmas campaign.
The Salford-based charity will be working with the the animation team of Doodledo to support residents suffering from poverty and homelessness in the community.
Throughout the winter months the Salford charity has seen increased demand, and so they aim to use short animations to raise awareness this Christmas.
The short animation will see a hive of bees teach local audiences lessons, and will share how others are disadvantaged during the Christmas period.
During the animation, viewers are shown different products such as mattresses and turkey dinners through various advertisement styles that are used to encouraged people to donate to the charity.
Following the release of the animation, Patrick O’Dowd, Director of Caritas Salford, shared the importance of donating to support people during the holiday period.
As he said: “These aren’t just statistics, they are real people facing incredibly difficult times right now and that’s why we’ve launched the #BeeThere campaign to urge people to help bring the true meaning back into Christmas”
O’Dowd continued by sharing the impact of the cost-of-living crisis, and the discussed the future problems that it will have during the winter for people unable to afford essentials like heating and clothing.
As he continued: “The impact of the increased cost-of-living continues to cause crisis for people in our local communities, with many people forced into situations they never imagined would happen.
The Diocese of Salford has also shared some free resources to their website, as they are aiming to encourage schools, groups, and individuals to learn more about the current situation, that can be found here.
The charity will also put to together a virtual gift catalogue where people can buy items which will then be donated to those in need, which can also be found here.
The Director of Caritas continued to reiterate the importance of bringing the tradition of Christmas back, imploring people to think about helping others rather than the more commercial aspects of the holiday.
O’Dowd continued: “We can all feel under pressure to buy more, spend more, consume more and respond to the never-ending call to accumulate things.
“But, sadly we see every day as people come to our services that many individuals and families don’t even have the basics.
“So, let’s not just make this time of year about the tinsel, the parties and the supermarket queues this year.”
The charity will be encouraging people through the winter months to help support those in need.
As they shared on their website: “At this time of year, we can all feel under pressure to buy more, spend more, consume more and respond to the never-ending call to accumulate things.
“But, some people don’t even have the basics. No food for their baby, no warm clothes or heating; not even the security of a roof over their family’s heads.
“Help put the true meaning back into Christmas and #BeeThere with a gift that could truly help transform lives.”
