The new season Brassic has been released weekly to national audiences – but eagle-eyed viewers may have spotted some scenes shot in Salford.

The sixth season of the popular Sky comedy Brassic had been running weekly from September 26 with the final episode airing on October 31.

The series consisted of seven episodes and was set around Vinnie and his group of friends, who tackle crazy adventures in the fictional town of Hawley.

But for some viewers there were scenes that were more than recognisable to the Salford area, with several of them being filmed in the city.

One of the scenes that may be noticeable to viewers was Vinnie’s appointments with Dr Cox.

The doctor appointment was filmed on the second floor room at the Frederick Road Campus of The University of Salford.

The scenes were filmed outside of term time, so there were fewer people around to notice but isn’t the first time that the university had been used in the series.

The University of Salford was also used as a filming location in the first season of the show, being used as Erin’s college campus.

However, throughout the series most of the scenes were filmed around Greater Manchester, including Bolton town centre and the Star and Garter pub in Manchester, with the show being set in Lancashire.

But many locations were set around Salford, with eagle eyed viewers of the series being able to notice that ‘Ashley’s traveller site’ that was filmed near to the Salford Community Stadium.

Originally, the filming location was near Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, but since season three Ashley’s site has been located around the home ground of the Salford Red Devils.

And it isn’t just the locations of Salford that have had an impact throughout the series, as one of the actors, Joanna Higson, who plays Sugar in the series is a graduate from the University of Salford.

The 41-year-old actor was able to graduate in 2006 with a First Class Degree in Media and Performance in 2006.

And that wasn’t her only visit to the University of Salford, as she returned in 2016 to study Broadcast Journalism, following a break from acting.

Joanna was able to land the role in Brassic, playing the role of Sugar, as she had previously shared the story of her character in the series.

As she said in 2021 during the third season: “She’s completely embracing all the chaos. She’s also very accepting and very loyal.

“There’s a bit of a working-class theme that Joe has got running through the series, that when you’re in this community and in this friendship group, they’ve absolutely got your back.”

Since its arrival to the Sky screen in 2019, Brassic has become one of the most successful comedy series of all time, with cast including Joseph Gilgun, Michelle Keegan, Aaron Heffernan and Salford-born Steve Evets, who plays Farmer Jim.

The show has become such a iconic show for many, and to see Salford have its share of the success through locations and actors is a major success for the city.
