Hundreds of Salford residents have queued excitedly in MediaCity today as they awaited their chance of trying the Spud Bros jacket potatoes.
The Tiktok famous brother due Jacob and Harvey Nelson, were left stunned as fans queued patiently outside of their Children in Need van from as early as 9am.
The van itself opened at 10am, and had a long queue of guests that stretched along the expansive area of the MediaCIty Piazza.
The two brothers from Preston, announced earlier in the week that they were hosting a 30-hour spud-a-thon that very quickly drew the attention of many Salford residents.
The duo currently have over three million followers on TikTok, and were bound to draw a large number of guests.
As Jacob Nelson shared: “We’re here to a do a 24-hour Spud-a-thon, but it is more like a 30-hour Spud-a-thon.
“We are just trying to sell the humble jacket potato that we have been serving since 1955.”
Jacob continued to share the thought process behind the challenge, he said: “The 30 hours that we are doing, is just raising as much money as we can for Children in Need.”
“I did not expect all the support from Tiktok, Facebook, and all the social media,” he continued: “Its just so surreal to be stood here and to have raised that much money.”
He added: “I didn’t think we would raise £5,000 through the whole thing, but to do it in an hour a half, it’s just too good.”
And there was also a lot of excitement in the queue, as many were waiting for their chance to try the social media famous spuds, or even try the special ‘Spudsey’ potato.
One woman in the queue was 35 year-old Laura Nolan, who praised the brothers for their efforts in raising money, as she said: “I was just walking through, I saw them and thought yeah, fantastic, it’s a great thing to do.
“There’s a lot of hype around here today with it being Children in Need, it’s a good thing for a cold winter’s day.
“I’ve still got my ears in my bag, I just didn’t feel it was appropriate to get them out just yet.”
And it seems that isn’t just local residents that were queuing up, as standing at the front of the line were visitors who travelled from Southampton for the viral potatoes.
As Southampton- based Becky and Connor, shared: “We’ve come from the south, all the way down from Southampton. Let’s just say we came up to Manchester yesterday.”
The Spud Bros were anticipating to be there from 10am to 5pm, with the aim of serving 250 spuds.
But with the excitement of residents lining up for their jacket potatoes, it seemed that it would be a very short fundraiser for the pair – but nonetheless a well-received one.
