Salford City Academy is set to undergo an “exciting” change as it becomes a community hub offering new activities and services.
The Academy based in Eccles, will inviting parents, carers and local people to a celebratory event to discuss brand-new events and activities, all for free.
The academy, which is a part of United Learning and serves students aged 11-16, has been recognised for its work in the local community and has been rewarded for all their hard work.
The school is hosting a launch day on Wednesday November 27 for the community to find out about the new opportunities that will be available.
The local students have already had the opportunity to partake in a variety of community events within the school, such as a weekly litter pick, gardening and a food hub.
Sarah Johnson, transition and community lead at the scho, said that the launch will include an afternoon tea as well as providing a space to introduce the upcoming activities.
She said: “We’re going to launch Brookhouse in Bloom, where we’re hoping all our residents get involved to try and make the local area look really nice.”
The hub will also be offering Christmas cooking classes, and a weekly stay and play mum’s group.
The academy is also hoping to raise awareness about what is currently happening in the area that the community can get involved in.
She continued: “All the people that work in the local community centres and the youth service are coming to tell people about what they offer too.
“It’s an afternoon for a celebration but also to find out what activities families can do in their local area.”
The events are all free, and the school is hoping that as many people get involved as possible.
As she added: “It’s going to be really important, especially for parents and carers of this school and Barton Moss Primary School.
“I think it will open doors for people that live on Brookhouse estate, as they tell us that there’s not much going on.”
Salford City Academy’s launch day will also provides a forum for those living in the local area to voice their thoughts on community services.
“We want to also hear from people who live in this community, to find out, ‘What do you want us to offer?’”
“It’s a real chance for us to listen,” she said.
The school is “really proud” of all its students for the work they do in the community, and are eagerly anticipating the launch event.
She added: “We’re really excited to launch all the extra things we are going to start offering. We’re just excited to hear from the community to see what they want from us.”
