The boss of Swinton Lions says changes to the league competition is good news for the Salford rugby league club.
CEO of the Lions Foundation and board member of Swinton Lions, Damian Ridpath, says there will be opportunities for lower league clubs as a result of changes to the Betfred Challenge Cup in 2025.
A change in the Challenge Cup structure means Super League clubs will enter the competition in the third round – rather than the sixth.
Super League teams will be able to drawn home and away, meaning potentially huge fixtures at the home of smaller clubs still likely to be in the Cup.
This mean a potential for generating more revenues for teams such as Swinton Lions.
Mr Ridpath commented: “Teams are going to want to test themselves. If Swinton could get through the 2nd round and draw to a big team like Wigan it would be good.”
With a restructured timeline, the cup final falls much earlier in the year on June 7th.
