A Salford wrestling show is set to return in 2025 following the success of their debut show last month.
The Salford City Wrestling is set to entice crowds ahead of their second ever show “Coronation” next year, that will follow on from the promotion’s debut show “Take the Throne”.
The promotions debut saw a wrestler crowned the King of Salford after a grueling multi-match tournament, featuring ‘some of the best pro wrestling stars in the North West.’
The returning show is set to take place at The Pendlebury Social Club, on Bolton Road, Swinton on Friday 28 February, after the show sold out the venue on their first ever show in October.
Following the announcement, Alex Francis, 31, co-owner of Salford City Wrestling said the debut was “the perfect first show.”
As he continued: “Our target was like 100 tickets and we sold out, 170 sold. Everything that we thought, that we wanted to happen happened, and everything went smoothly, there were no hiccups, there was nothing that went wrong, and it was kind of a perfect first show.”
‘Coronation’ is set to build on storylines set up in the first show and fans can look forward to the debuts of five new professional wrestlers.
Discussing the upcoming show, Francis continued: “We want to expand on the stories that we started telling in the first show.
“We had some animosity between the wrestlers, and people got introduced to their characters and what they do, how good they are, and we’ve got five new wrestlers debuting as well.”
Salford City Wrestling are one of the newest indie wrestling promotions on the scene, and one of only two in Salford.
Business partners and experienced wrestlers themselves, Francis and his co-owner Alex Boylin wanted to “put the professional back into professional wrestling.”
As Alex Francis added: “We’ve been wrestling for nearly 10 years, we both started training together, and Boylin, he’s a bit older, he is retiring soon, so he wanted to stay in wrestling.
“We also always had the idea of starting our own company. We always thought, when we’re wrestling on other shows, ‘oh well maybe they should do that, maybe this could be better, or this could be better.’
“We wanted to kind of get it a bit more professional, because there’s a lot of shows that didn’t come across as professional.”
The pair have a clear sight on the future of their promotion with hopes of continuing to sell out shows in Pendlebury.
He continued: “I think the short-term goal is to stay at our current venue and in the next year, see how many times we can sell it out if possible.
“And then if we did sell it out like after five, six shows, we’ll look to expand into bigger venues and hopefully, you know, more wrestlers showcasing the best there is.”
Doors for ‘Coronation’ will open at 6:30pm with the first bell ringing at 7:00pm. The venue is fully accessible and free parking is available.
