A Salford student will be running the distance of Manchester to Edinburgh this month to raise money for Movember.
The student, Cammy Middlemass, 25 will be using the challenge raise awareness for Movember that focuses on Men’s Health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide.
Over the past five years, Cammy has done multiple challenges for the charity but this year looks to be his biggest yet.
The challenge will see the student run over 300km to raise money, as he shared what it means to him, he said: “Mental health shouldn’t be so taboo, people need to be able to talk about it.”
For the challenge Cammy has raised, £325 so far, with his target being to raise £2,500, as he continued to speak about the charities importance: “I myself have struggled with mental health and I know someone who committed suicide, if Movember can help any family or friend not have to go through that it’s a great cause.”
Movember is a global charity event that takes place every November to raise awareness and funds, the foundation uses the funds raised to support research and programs that help men live healthier, happier and longer lives.
So far, Cammy anticipates to run everyday, covering a 12.5km distance per day, a tough challenge for anyone – especially with a ultra-marathon planned in December.
However, it seems that he remains unfazed, as he said: “Listening to podcasts gets me through it because I know if its one hour long then once the episode is finished I’ll have run 10km.
“I am weary if ill be able to do it all especially the ultra marathon at the end but it’s all just so exciting.”
Cammy hasn’t always been a runner and gave his advice to others who may not believe they can do it, he continued: “Many people think when you start you having to be doing five and 10km’s but this is not the case.
“When I started I was massively overweight and I just started walking then doing 2kms and 2mks.
“Nothing is too small, just get out, do some exercise and work your way up, the hardest thing is leaving the house in the first place”.
