Mayor for Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham has confirmed that bus fares under the Bee Network will continue to cost £2 until the end of 2025.
The decision followed Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s announcement that England’s single bus fare cap would be hiked to £3 in the upcoming Budget.
However, Mayor Andy Burnham has confirmed that Greater Manchester will continue with the £2 cap on bus fares until the end of 2025, subject to a mid year review.
The £2 bus fare in Greater Manchester started in September 2022 ahead of the national scheme, which so far has been a massive success.
And the bus fare will continue to grow on Burnham’s mission to bring all of Greater Manchester’s buses back under public control under the Bee Network branding.
Following the announcement from the Prime Minister, Andy Burnham shared: “Greater Manchester is on course to complete the re-regulation of buses on time and on budget early in the New Year, becoming the first city outside London to put them fully back under public control after four decades of deregulation.
“Our policy aim throughout has been to create a low-fare, high-patronage system similar to the one that has brought higher growth and productivity to London.”
I can confirm that we plan to stick with a £2 cap on single bus fares for the whole of 2025.

He continued: “This will remain the mission of the Bee Network.”
Burnham added that from January 5 2025, they “will proceed with our plan to introduce a new simpler, flatter fare structure based around a £2 single.”
