A Salford couple is fundraising to give out free Christmas dinners for the third year in a row as they aim to help hundreds of people in need.
Brian Williams, from Winton, announced he and his wife Kelly are once again dishing out dinners and gifts for those in need.
Last year, the couple handed out more than 300 dinners and they are once again running their campaign. Brian, 50, said their delivery list is already filling up but has claimed they’re not turning anyone away.
“I think everyone is struggling,” Brian said. “We’ve got the same people from last year that are coming back this year because they’re still in the same situation.”
The couple originally set out to deliver Christmas dinners two years ago. They spent the first year’s Christmas Eve cooking from their kitchen in five slow cookers, and sent out around 120 deliveries.
Last year, they invested in professional catering equipment and with a widened team of volunteers, managed to deliver to more than 300 dinners.
Brian and Kelly, 43, are focused on providing dinners to people around Salford and Trafford but they would like to be open to everyone.
“Within reason we don’t want to say no to anybody,” Brian added. “It’s the hardest time of the year for some people so I tend to advertise on the local groups but I wouldn’t particularly want to say no to anybody.”
The couple provides the dinners for people for a range of reasons. They also provide meals to local care homes who don’t provide Christmas dinners to residents.
Brian added: “I think with the economic climate being what it is at the moment, everybody’s struggling and the price of everything seems to have been going up except for wages.
“I think it’s more the fact it’s Christmas, it’s supposed to be a special occasion. It’s supposed to be family, so if you haven’t go that sort of family or network or support and you’re on your own, or you can’t afford to cook a Christmas dinner, or you’re not physically able, it’s just nice that we can provide this where it gives them a little sense of family.”
