A brand new community based workshop has launched today in Salford inviting over 50’s to come together to talk about health and wellbeing.

The workshop ‘Learn with Lunch’ will launch today (Wednesday 23 October), and will be held at the Salford Arts Theatre every week.

The event organiser Age Friendly Salford will be encouraging the community to band together with the help of a free lunch.

The programme is being funded by Salford City Council, and will hope to tackle the growing disconnect from the public that many elderly people feel across the city.

The sessions will be a part of many events for the elderly, including ‘Walk and Talks’, ‘Tech and Tea’ as well as online sessions for those unable to venture out.

The ‘Learn with Lunch’ sessions will be launched from today, and will run every Wednesday for the next five weeks.

The exciting five week programme was shared by Roni Ellis, Artistic Director at Salford Arts Theatre, said: “Salford Arts Theatre are thrilled to be hosting Learn With Lunch workshops for the next five weeks.

“These workshops are free to over 50’s and are very informative. They are a great way for the Salford community to meet others in a warm, safe and friendly environment.

“A fantastic way for the community to stay informed and stay connected.”

The sessions will cover topics that include Benenfits, allowance, pension credits, wills, power of attorney’s and fall prevention as well as scams.

The sessions will hope to prove beneficial to the older generation of Salford, as they aim to tackle the “challenges of an ageing population and looking at all the different ways that together.”

These benefits will follow the Age Friendly Salford’s remit, as they share on their website: “More than 1 in 4 people will be over 60 and our longer lives are one of society’s greatest achievements.

“But while many already enjoy a good later life, others risk ill health, poverty and loneliness and in Salford, we want to do better.”

The sessions will run every Wednesday and to book your place in the sessions, please email: AFS@inspiringcommunitiestogether.co.u or speak to Roni at Salford Arts Theatre.
