A charity is offering free cancer support and awareness sessions in Salford to support people affected by life-limiting illnesses.
The charity ‘Being There’ has received additional funding to raise awareness of the importance of cancer screenings and prevention for people living in Swinton which has the lowest uptake of cancer screen sessions in the whole of Salford.
The lack of screening in the area means that for some people, cancer will be detected at the later stages of life making the treatment process more challenging.
The event will be hosted on November 5 with two slots available during the day at 11am-1pm and 1.30pm-3.30pm.
The focus will be on breast, bowel and cervical cancer throughout the two sessions.
Swinton residents will be able to attend the free sessions at Worsley Road United Reformed Church in Swinton, and receive information on screenings and emotional support.
The charity ‘Being There‘ offers support to people with life-limiting conditions, such as cancer, COPD, heart disease and many others.
The Greater Manchester based-charity prides itself on listening confidentially to concerns about cancer, strokes, other respiratory diseases and serious illnesses.
As well as befriending, carer support, respite sitting, and social groups, it offers practical assistance such as taking people shopping or providing transport to hospital appointments.
The event will offer guests the chance to also receive a professional counselling service, as well being provided free tea and coffee.
If you live in Swinton and would like to register to one of the two sessions you can contact the team via salford@beingthere.org.uk or call the numbers provided.
