Swinton Lionesses rugby team are set to hold an open trial encouraging more women to take part in their promotion climb.
The planned trials will be hoping to build further on the teams future vision of promoting a stronger squad depth to climb the league tables.
The trials will be at the Salford City Roosters on Wednesday 6 November at 6:30pm, in the hope of bolstering the clubs 2025 ambitions.
Swinton will be hoping to improve their recent form, and repeat their early success after forming in 2020 on International Women’s Day.
In the first few years the club was able to find a lot of success, being promoted from League One to the Championship in 2022.
However, with the club currently sat in the third division Swinton have been looking to build their squad and strengthen for the upcoming season.
The team shared in a Facebook post: ‘We are building a team with a shared vision – our goal is promotion and we’re looking for players who believe they can help us achieve it.’
Swinton Lionesses currently play their home games at Sale Rugby Football Club, and battle against the likes of Hull FC, Wakefield Trinity and Widnes Vikings.
The trials are not only in favour of the clubs hope to climb up the divisions, but in the hope of capitalising on the growth of women’s sport.
As Foundation manager, Mark Robinson said: “Women’s sport is growing in every sport, not just Rugby League.
“This year, it offers a professional environment and helps the ladies socialise, get fitter and talk to people.”
And with the trials taking place on November 6, Mark encouraged people to come along, as he said: “Just give it a go because you never know until you try something whether you’re going to be good at it.”
Following the conclusion of the this seasons campaign, the team recently held an end of season awards, with Eve Ashcroft, Lexi Smith, Emily Haley, Lucy Baggaley and Emma Dwyer sweeping up the awards.
This year marks the second campaign of the new format which will continue in 2025, of the Super Eights style system.
The new system has helped determine promotion and relegation between the Championship and League One, and has allowed teams like Swinton Lionesses to climb the rugby league pyramid.
The trials will hope to offer the most amount opportunities for women’s rugby, and the potential development of Swinton Lionesses.
