The recent collaboration between Co-Op and the punk poet, pays tribute to “Manchester, its people, and the venue.”

Ahead of the event a spokesperson said: “Dr John Cooper Clarke’s ode highlights the enduring connection between Co-op and Manchester, emphasising the impact of Co-op’s presence in the community over the years.

“The poem was written in Clarke’s signature punk style, declaring that ‘a town is not a proper town without the old Co-op around.”

“Growing up in the city, you couldn’t miss it.

“This ain’t just some fancy new building, it’s a symbol of our city – bold, brash and full of heart. And I’m chuffed to bits to be part of it.”

Three talented poets will also be joining Dr John Cooper Clarke on his tour – John Agard will appear in London, Henry Normal in Nottingham, and Linkton Kwesi Johnson in Manchester, along with Jan Brierton and Freya Beer joining for all three dates.
