A death is often a sad experience – we pay tribute to former Salford player Alan Easterbrook who died aged 93.
The former Salford rugby player started his career at Aspatria Rangers in Cumbria and at the age of 18, before going to make 22 appearances for the club.
He proved himself to be a true talent, being scouted for the Reds and was quickly signed from the Cumbrian side.
The young man was able to develop his skills in the reserve team for the Red Devils, whilst also working as a mining apprentice.
Throughout his time in Salford, he would play for the Reds while commuting to and from his hometown in Maryport, and it seemed that his hard work would eventually pay off.
Alan was fortunate enough to make his first team debut on the 19 April 1950 on the right wing against St Helens.
However, after his debut it wasn’t long until he was able to write his name into the clubs history, as he scored his first try for the club with 12 minutes to go against the travelling Rochdale.
The try proved significant as he was able to lead them into victory, winning 15-10 in the final match of the season.
Even though it was a very important victory, it was sadly not enough as Salford for the squad to secure top four slot.
However, despite that early success the next season was not as eventful for Alan, as he was only selected four times in the 1950-51 season, but his time at Salford was not over yet.
The following season Alan made a name for himself, his blistering pace was enough for him to pick up another 13 appearances, where he was able to play eight times as a centre and five times as a loose-forward.
However, it seemed that his times with Reds had ended after his last home game against Warrington on November 21 1953.
After his three seasons at the club, he was transferred to Swinton, where he was able to showcase his talents in second row playing 45 matches for the Lions.
However, this stint at Swinton would mark the end of his senior career, as he would play his last two games playing on loan for Workington Town.
After his last two senior games, he would leave to rejoin the amateur level and play for his hometown club in Maryport for Risehow and Gillhead.
The former Salford Red Devils player sadly passed away at the age of 93 on September 14 2024 and we pay our respects to his friends and family.
