Salford Lads Club has won £100,000 from the city council as it fights for funding to stay open.
Salford City Council will provide the significant contribution to the club’s urgent £250,000 appeal launched this week.
The decision to support the historic club was funded with immediate effect to help the iconic youth centre remain open.
The funding from the city council will go towards operational costs, and will be essential for saving the Ordsall centre that has provided activities for generations of youngsters.
Salford Mayor Paul Dennett said: “I’m delighted to be able to confirm this significant funding package for Salford Lads Club.
“Having worked closely with the club for many years, we are acutely aware of the current financial difficulties and the challenging operating times it faces.
“I’m pleased we have been able to act swiftly and provide this funding support now.”
I’m pleased to announce @SalfordCouncil will be giving @salfordladsclub £100k to secure the clubs future.

The crowdfunder currently stands at more than £130,000, but nearly double that is needed by the end of November to keep the iconic centre open.
The building has been open since 1903, and has provided a safe space for the younger generations of Salford with English Heritage describing the structure “as the most complete example of this rare form of social provision to survive in England.”
Cllr Dennett continued: “As a council, we are committed to creating a fairer, greener, healthier and more inclusive city for all and this includes working with organisations and institutions such as Salford Lads Club, who can help us achieve this goal.”
He praised the club for providing support, guidance, activities and education, as well as being a safe haven for generations of Salfordians.
He said: “There will be people around the world who are only aware of Salford, because of the Lads Club.”
He said: “I’d also urge those who have benefitted from the great work of the club over the years and anyone who is able to donate.”
