This Halloween a spectacular show will be premiere at the Lowry Theatre as Edy Hurst will perform twice in Salford for his UK tour. 

The new show was well received following the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and will explore a new magical and mystical world in a comedy theatrical performance.

The show will led by the award-winning comedian best known for appearing on BBC Radio 4, MTV UK, and NextUp Comedy, will be taking centre stage. 

The show will coincide with his new podcast  I Pod a Spell on You that sees Edy Hurst inviting guests from across the arts to talk about their careers as Disabled and/or Neurodivergent creators.

Himself and the guests solve very modern problems with the cutting edge technology of pre 1700s spell books.

Throughout the performance he hopes to take visitors on a “wyrd and wonderfull journey of self-discoverie” through the realms of the Lancashire Witch Trials, Neurodivergence and the Vengaboys. 

Drawing on his recent discovery in the magical ancestry weaved together by creative storytelling and absurdist humour.

The show was written and will be performed by Edy Hurst on both Halloween and November 1 this year.

Ahead of the performance Edy shared his excitement, as he said: “I cannot wait to share Edy Hurst’s Wonderfull Discoverie of Witches in the Countie of Himself with audiences at the Lowry and across the country.” 

The show was commissioned by The Lowry as part of its flagship artist development program Developed With. 

As the 18th month program aims to promote artists in the North of England, with the additonal support of both the Arts Council England and Attenborough Arts Centre.

Edy went on to credit his teams support, as he said: “The Developed With programme has been transformational for me creatively and professionally.” 

The show will be explore a tangle of ideas, as he works with a talented team throughout the comedy, and hopes to express “the lived experience of ADHD through the only logical themes, the Pendle Witch trials and the Vengaboys.”

And it seems that the 18-month project has been a lot of fun with Antonia Beck, Senior Producer: Artist Development at The Lowry saying: “It has been such a joy to work with Edy over the past 18months, supporting him to not only expand his comedy work into theatre. 

This new show is the epitome of Edy – innovative, brimming with ideas, fun, imaginative, and full of heart.”

She continued: “We are so proud to have supported Edy and the development of this show and we can’t wait for audiences to experience it.”

The performance of Edy Hurst’s Wonderfull Discoverie of Witches in the Countie of Himself will be at The Lowry from 31st October to November 1 2024.
