The Halifax branch located on Church Street in Eccles is set to be permanently closed at the start of 2025.
The branch offers a variety of facilities to the residents in the area including a cash machine, a paying-in machine, counter service and travel money collection.
The closure is a part of an official statement from Lloyds Banking Group, which Halifax is under said they are to shut at least 292 of their bank branches across 2024 and 2025.
The date of closure is said to be January 7, 2025 with a further 32 more branches expected to close throughout the year.
The official closures will mean that 119 branches will be closed across the country by the end of 2025.
The Eccles Bank has released a statement informing the public about why they are closing, it said: “Most customers are now using our Mobile Banking app, Online Banking, or calling us instead.
“This means they are using branches, including our Eccles Church Street branch, much less.”
However, despite the rise in mobile banking and online payments, locals are saddened at the loss of the local branch.
Locals have taken to Facebook to share their frustrations, with the closest branch being the Salford Precinct, as one Facebook user said: “Absolutely gutted they are closing, means a drag all the way to Salford which isn’t always convenient.”
And while there is a lot of frustration with the inconvenience of travelling to the bank there have been various concerns for those who can’t access online banking.
As one Facebook user, Jude Kenny added: “They don’t think about the elderly that depend on going into a branch for help.
“Especially when they are not able to use technology.”
The worries and concerns will need to be addressed, with residents of Eccles being recommended to learn more about the closure – and can do so via the link here.
