The River Irwell burst its banks late into the Monday night after Greater Manchester was battered with days of heavy rain.
The river that acts as the boundary marker that separates Manchester and Salford, was hit with torrential rainfall last night that led to the waterways breaching pathways along the Irwell.
The issues of flooding were met following the Met Office predicting 20-40mm of rainfall for the day, with the city being issued a yellow warning whilst the amber warning was issued for travel disruptions and areas of flooding.
As they shared: “20-40mm is expected to fall quite widely with a few places seeing up to 60mm during the course of the day.”
The pathways by The Marriott Victoria & Albert Hotel and Salford’s Novella Apartment Complex were seen to be flooding, with water levels rising along the footpaths near Bridge Street.

The floods came after an amber alert was issued by the government for flooding near the River Irwell, with water levels “rising throughout the afternoon and into the evening.”
The warning was also extended to low-lying land and roads around the River Irk, Medlock, Wince and Worsley Brooks, with Worlsey Brooks facing record high numbers of flooding in the area.
And with the water level being especially high around the Salford Quays and Prestwich, amber warnings were issued for the entire area later into the evening.
Following the breaches of the pathways last night, the amber warnings have been since dropped, with the MET Office sharing that this afternoon should be the last of the rainfall across the city.
As the MET Office have reported that the rest of the week should be dry, which should hopefully lower the risk of potential floods.
