A woman has described the ‘scary’ moment a car crashed through her front garden, narrowly missing her house.

Shenade Calderwood, who lives on Worsely Road North in Walkden, was in her house at around 7.30pm on Sunday night (September 30), when she heard a sound ‘like fireworks’ in her garden.

Running to the front door, the 36-year-old said she found a vehicle had crashed through her garden wall, knocking her car into her neighbour’s car and causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

“I was in the house, and I heard a massive bang and screeching,” she said. “I went to the front door and all the front garden had been taken out and my car had been pushed further down the street into another car all crumpled up everyone was shouting.

“I was scared because I didn’t know what it was. I didn’t see another car I just heard screeching. It sounded like fireworks I thought something had come into my garden with full force, but I didn’t know what it was.”

Following the incident, the driver reportedly left the scene in the vehicle, which is believed to be a black Land Rover or Range Rover. A police investigation has been launched but so far no arrests have been made.

Eyewitnesses outside neighbouring chippy, Li Wah, have reported seeing a vehicle being driven ‘erratically’ as the driver attempted to ‘overtake two cars’. According to reports, the driver was forced to swerve to avoid a bollard and an oncoming car, which resulted in the collision.

Shenade has shared her relief that she and her partner Anthony have escaped from the ordeal unscathed, as well as their dogs.

She added: “I thought that he (Anthony) had been hurt. He literally drove off the road where the incident happened five minutes before so my head fell off – I thought he was hurt.

“He only nipped out of the house because he had forgotten something, but if he hadn’t pulled out of the house at that time where his car was parked, it would have come into the living room where the dogs were on the windowsill. It would have taken out my dogs and the living room.”

Shenade, a healing practitioner, runs her business from her home but will now not be able to have clients visit.

“I am not going to able to work for the time being as well, as this is where I do my healing sessions,” she said. “I can’t exactly bring my clients here as it’s meant to be a tranquil space and a car has almost come flying into my living room nearly.

“It’s a nightmare in terms of work.”

She is also concerned about the financial impact of the incident as she has no one to contact regarding damages.

“I need to get all the front garden sorted I was meant to have signage put up, but that’s going to have to be put on hold until it’s all sorted,” she said. “My car is a write-off.

“I am going to have to pay the bill unless they get the reg of his car it’s going to affect my insurance. It is going to impact me financially if we don’t find the person who is liable.”

The community has banded together in an attempt to identify the driver of the vehicle, sharing a post on Facebook hundreds of times.

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for more information.
