Salford City Lionesses were knocked out of the Women’s FA Cup after a crushing 3-0 defeat away to Wythenshawe.
The second round qualifying tie was originally scheduled for Sunday 22nd of September but was abandoned in the 34th minute after a medical emergency involving Lionesses Goalkeeper, Grace Pomfret.
Taking Pomfret’s place, Jade Boulton was forced to make an early save from Wythenshawe midfielder Chaneece Reeves in the first minute.
Salford grew into the game with a chance ruled out for offside and two attempts from Laura Tobin blocked after a corner delivered by Hutton.
The Lionesses continued this positive football with Caitlin Mahaffey proving a driving force in midfield, capitalising on Wythenshawe’s mistakes but lacking an end product.
In the 31st minute, Mahaffey exploited a loose touch from a Wythenshawe midfielder, Wakefield, and drove the ball down the left, shooting it wide into the side netting, despite receiving a clip from the opposition player, which was a close chance for the Lionesses.

However, Salford maintained these attacks into the later stages of the first half with the linesmen denying a chance for Nat Tathem in the 41st minute, and a 42nd minute shot attempt by Jess Battle was blocked for a corner.
Despite a promising first half from Salford, the team went into half-time level at 0-0 with the Lionesses missing an end product.

But the moment shifted in the second half with Wythenshawe kicking off making three substitutions of Limb, Birch, and Tattersall, who which quickly changed the momentum of the game.
As multiple attempts being fired at the Salford net within the first ten minutes, the Lionesses were extremely under pressure with a shot from Birch going wide of the far post and a brilliant double save from Boulton that denied Wythenshawe from going ahead.
And the attack on the Salford goal continued, with another Wythenshawe attempt being denied by Boulton in the 60th minute, before Reeves opened the scoring against the Ammies with a shot from the left.
Two goals came in quick succession for Wythenshawe as substitute, Birch, doubled their lead in the 69th minute after a freekick delivered by O’Gara.
With another substitute Limb making it 3-0 for the Salford opposition with a close range tap-in from the substitute after a low cross through the Salford box.
A cross from Hutton in the 86th minute provided a chance for Tathem but her shot was blocked, leading to another effort for Brooke that was ricocheted around the area before being headed wide.
However, Salford’s late chances were not enough and after four minutes of added time, with the referee bringing the game to an end with Wythenshawe progressing to the next round of the Women’s FA Cup.
