Plans for a new McDonald’s restaurant to open in Salford Quays have been approved.

Full planning permission has been approved for a new McDonald’s restaurant to open in Salford Quays.

The new McDonalds will take over the 3 Capital Quay building, and will be the sixth addition of the franchise across the city.

The site has been unoccupied since 2020, with previous occupants being the Mexican restaurant chain, Chiquito.

The Capital Quay commercial area has been the subject of new regeneration, with the addition of the popular fast-food chain being the newest one to join the developing area.

Earlier this year, an old vacant property was renovated and opened by the global coffee-chain Starbucks, adding a refreshed, new look to a previously run-down development.

The development is also neighbour to the occupied family pub, The Matchstick Man, as well as an Indian restaurant Shahi Masala.

However, as previously reported by Salford Now, the Indian restaurant has seen planning applications submitted to be converted to a Metro Bank, though these plans are still pending.

The planning permission for McDonald’s was approved on 15 August and will look to be the brand new addition along the Quays.

One drawing of proposed signage for the location revealed that the restaurant will operate as a 24 hours location.

The site’s planning application does not appear to mention a drive-thru for the location.

An opening date for the location is not included within the planning application, though works have begun on the site.
