Today is the last chance in Salford to apply for round five of the household support fund that focuses on helping residents with food, fuel, and energy bills.

The scheme aims to support households in the most need, with the funding be available to those who may not be eligible for other support already given by the  government.

Salford residents do not need to be in receipt of benefits to apply for the Household Support Fund, although applicants need to be able to provide evidence that they do not already have the funds themselves.

The scheme was introduced in October 2021 with the intention to support vulnerable households with essentials like food and energy costs.

To apply, the council needs either an up-to-date bank statement or an up-to-date energy meter reading with ID clearly visible for verification plus photo identification, two forms of proof of address or a Universal Credit journal.

The assist team will be able to distribute support to those eligible residents through vouchers for support.

Salford MP Rebecca Long-Bailey was quick to encourage those in need to apply for the fund.

As she shared on X: “The Household Support Fund can provide short term financial support to assist vulnerable Salford households with energy cost.”

With the winter months approaching, it often becomes a more difficult time for those to deal with the rise in bills.

And it has led to many having to turn to groups such as the Lighthouse Community Trust (LCT) at the Brookhouse Community Centre in Eccles.

The local group serves the community by providing a food hub service every Monday to support people struggling to make ends meet.
