Salford Red Devils look ahead to their clash in the Super League playoff game this Friday.
The match that will be contested against Leigh Leopards will be a fiery game, with the Red Devils set to smash their attendance record for the fixture.
Ahead of the fixture, half back Chris Atkin reassured fans this week following their previous defeat.
As the half back shared that the their effort and desire to win were clear after their loss against Wigan Warriors, with the main starters dropped from the line-up.
The 64-0 result to Wigan Warriors shouldn’t be looked as a reflection of the Red Devils as they approach Friday’s Super League play-offs game against Leigh.
With the Red Devils hoping to book their spot and progress to the semi finals, one step closer to the Super League Grand Final.
This lack of deterrence for fans should be clear with Salford opting to rest a number of players vs Wigan Warriors, they will look to return to a full strength team on Friday.
With the Red Devils having given eight new players their debut in last Thursday’s loss, with Wigan winning their fifth Betfred Super League League Leaders’ Shield as a result.
However, the defeat certainly hasn’t deterred the fans, with a sell-out crowd being a possibility ahead of the fixture.
Reflecting on the game, Atkins shared: “It was a really tough game, as always against Wigan.
“They are the World Champions for a reason and they showed that in the game.”
He continued to add: “I don’t think they could have done any more in terms of their effort and commitment throughout the game.
“Hopefully, they can use this opportunity to move forward in their careers.”
The regular season has finished now and the mentality has to change towards play-off rugby. It’s do or die. Our focus has to be on this week and this week alone.”
Speaking after the game, Wigan Warriors Junior Nsemba feels their success was based on the even efforts of each team member being the first team in the clubs history to win consecutive leaders shield.
As he said: “We all worked for each other. If someone had messed up, someone would make up for it.
“Our heads were in it for the full eighty minutes and we didn’t drop off.”
He continued: “Going back to back being the first Wigan team to do it. Getting multiple league leaders in a row, it’s a big deal and we’re all extremely proud.”
Salford Red Devils will face Leigh on Friday, in an expected sell out as they look to progress through the Super League.
