Traffic in Walkden has faced various disruption over the last week on Old Clough lane and further down the A6 towards Swinton.
The disruption has caused various challenges for those commuting to school and work across the city.
With it being described as an impossible task for residents in the area, with journey times known to be taking residents three times longer than usual.
The Walkden community has over 30,000 people in the area, and many of them took to to Facebook to share their anger towards the roadworks.
With many in the area sharing their frustrations that are currently taking place, on one of the busiest roads.
One resident expressed his anger on Facebook by saying how his “normal 20 minute journey took an hour and a half.”
With another Facebook user saying: “A four mile school run took 45 minutes this morning.”
However, as a result of the traffic build Labour Councillor, Irfan Syed, who represents the area of Walkden South has been working hard to fix the problem.
He has so far kept residents up-to-date sharing his cooperation with the council staff via social media.
Serving Walkden South since 2021, the councillor expressed his dismay for the disruption, “I felt it was important to be present on-site to understand the situation firsthand.
“Even though this wasn’t directly within my remit, as a representative of the residents, I believe it is my responsibility to stand by them when they face inconvenience.”
Following a request by Syed and other council staff to “pause the work and resume it during a more convenient time.”
The hole has since been filled in and traffic has returned to normal as of this morning according to residents of the area.
