Music Cafe provided by Age UK Salford

A new music cafe is due to open next month in Weaste as a haven for dementia sufferers.

The AgeUK project will allow those with dementia to use music-based therapy to improve overall health and wellbeing.

The project, which will also cater for carers, is being run in conjunction with Manchester Camerata’s pioneering Music in Mind programme

The new cafe is an extension of the programme which has already run in Manchester for several years and aims to bring moments of joy, connection, and true expression through music.

The project allows those with dementia to have conversations and communicate without words but through percussion instruments.

The new cafe at Age UK Salford will be available to guests on Friday mornings from 10am from 18 October at the Chandos Sports and Social Club in Weaste.

Mary Ann Byrne, director of dementia and community services, Age UK Salford, said: “Music is a great way for everyone to get involved, enjoy themselves, and truly connect.

“The music cafes will bring an uplifting, meaningful experience for those taking part.”

More information about the music café is available by emailing dssadmin@ageuksalford.org.uk or telephone: 07928 826 036.
