supported living scheme

Eight Salfordians with learning disabilities are to receive ‘vital’ care in Little Hulton’s new supported living scheme.

The new homes means that people can now get the support they need in Salford rather than being placed outside of the city. (Salford Now has decided not to detail the address of the site in order to protect the potentially vulnerable residents.)

While living in their new homes residents can live independently with specialist 24 hour care and support with things such as cooking, cleaning and personal care.

The care and support provider will employ approximately 20 people to provide expert support.

Becky Wilkinson, executive director for adult social care and health partnerships at Salford City Council said: “We are very excited to announce the completion of these eight new homes, built specifically to support adults with learning disabilities.

“The new homes are part of our strategic plans to provide people with local housing and support options that keep them close to family, friends and part of the Salford community, the place they call home. ”

The £3.8 million scheme is a partnership between Salford City Council and Great Places Housing Group. The land houses the eight bedroom supported living scheme, and on the wider site there is a mix of two and three bedroomed homes for affordable rent.

The site was acquired from Salford City Council, and the scheme has been funded through Homes England, Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Salford City Council, and Great Places.

Councillor Tracy Kelly is the city’s Deputy City Mayor and lead member for housing and anti-poverty. She has worked to push through the scheme since initial discussions took place in 2018 and said: “It is fantastic news that this state-of-the-art building, on what was once derelict land, is complete. It can be very challenging to find ground floor properties so to be able to build bespoke ones for this type of care is absolutely incredible.

“I would like to thank all partners involved in making this possible. The supported living scheme features air sources heat pumps as an environmentally friendlier option and to help reduce energy bills.”
