Experienced goalkeeper Jamie Jones has joined Salford City as a free agent after leaving Middlesbrough.

The 35-year-old has penned a one-year deal with the Ammies that runs through to the end of the 2024/25 season.

While Jones failed to feature in any of Boro’s Championship matches last campaign, he joins Salford with a wealth of EFL experience under his belt.

The veteran shot-stopper twice achieved promotion from League One, playing for Preston North End and Wigan Athletic.

Following the departure of Alex Cairns, Jones will be hoping to fill the huge goalkeeping void left behind.

Salford’s newest recruit reflected upon his career so far and outlined his aims for the new season:

“I have had a good career and I am proud of that career and I want to make it better, by joining Salford I am doing that, so it is going to be a great season for me, and a great season for the team, that’s the main thing.

“I think the ambition and the progression of the club is to keep going high, and the signings we’ve made already this window prove that. I am ambitious and I know the club definitely is, so it is so appealing to come here and join at such an exciting time.”

He follows the arrival of Tom Edwards and James Chester, who joined the club earlier this week.

Preparations have begun at the Peninsula stadium for Salford City’s League Two opener, the Ammies will begin the season at home to Port Vale on August 10, Kick-off is at 3pm.
