A campaigner in Salford is calling on the new Labour government to support her goals of making Salford a safer place.

Since 2017, Inara Dundere, of Little Hulton, is a community champion who has volunteered within Salford for years. She has worked hard to support vulnerable members of the local community by setting up Little Hulton Neighbourhood Watch and by hosting regular community coffee mornings.

However, due to a lack of sufficient funds, Inara is struggling to afford the coffee mornings and is calling on the new Labour government to support community heroes like her.

Irana also requires funds to set up a Neighbourhood Watch group in Swinton so that residents are able to feel a sense of security.

Inara began her endeavour to make Salford a safer place by volunteering for ‘Community Little Hulton’, whose mission is “to inspire today’s youth and bring the community together to enhance everybody’s wellbeing”.

Alongside this, Inara joined Mustard Tree, a charity in Little Hulton that focuses “on tackling both the causes and consequences of poverty and homelessness”.

Throughout the pandemic, Inara worked with ‘Women with Wings’ and ‘Salford Step into Action’ to deliver food packages to those in need.

After the pandemic, driven by her loving nature, Inara decided to open up her own Neighbourhood Watch scheme for Little Hulton.

She said: “The first year was the hardest, as nobody trusted or believed in me”. Despite initial set backs, she managed to fundraise money and deliver 300 Christmas presents to the elderly.

Following this, she managed to do the same last year and provided Christmas dinners to 200 people within Little Hulton.

The Neighbourhood Watch founder eventually received funding from the Salford Police to run crime prevention activities, and also help her fund four coffee mornings.

Due to the success of the coffee mornings, and the support received from the local community, Wharton and Cleggs Church offered her to run weekly coffee mornings.

However, due to the unmaintained support and funding, Inara is struggling to keep the coffee mornings going and is asking the Labour government and local residents to help her.

Alongside the safety of the community, Little Hulton Neighbourhood Watch also take pride in maintaining the cleanliness of Salford, with regular litter picking scheduled.

After years of community volunteering, Inara has now gained a team of four people to help her run the Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

Inara’s next mission is to set up a Neighbourhood Watch in Swinton, and urges anybody who wants to get involved in either of the programmes to get in touch.

Overall, Inara’s goal is to help and support the community and make Salford a more social and safe place for its residents.
