defender signs for Salford City

Former Stoke City defender Tom Edwards said “he cannot wait to get going” for Salford City FC.

The club recently announced the signing of the 25-year-old defender on a two-year deal.

Tom initially came through the youth ranks at Stoke City and also made over 50 senior appearances for The Potters in the Premier League and the Championship.

Later, the right-back subsequently made a trans-Atlantic loan move in 2020 to the MLS to play for New York Red Bulls.

Tom Edwards commented: “I’ve been around League One and the Championship, but also the MLS where I played for two seasons and that was a great experience for me, and I felt that that was probably the main one which allowed me to grow as a player.

“It was an amazing experience, obviously all the travelling that you get to do and all the stadiums you get to play in, and it was quite a young team I was joining, it made me grow as a person, as I had to mature a bit more having played in the English leagues, it was very beneficial for me.”

Tom returned to the UK in 2022 and had further loan spells at Barnsley in League One. He recently played for Huddersfield Town in the Championship, before signing permanently for The Ammies this summer.

Tom added: “I want to be very successful as an individual, but also as a team. I know how much ambition this club has and I want to move forward whilst I am here.

“I am honestly delighted to sign; I couldn’t wait to do it, and I am so happy I have come up as you obviously get a feel for the environment and I am loving my time here already, so I cannot wait to get going with the boys.”

His move is still subject to EFL and FA approval and ratification.
