35 arrests

Police have made 35 arrests after conducting several warrants which uncovered large quantities of drugs, including a cannabis farm in Weaste.

Police also conducted a traffic operation yesterday (Thursday June 20), with several motorists stopped and arrested for speeding and traffic offences.

Officers patrolled the Little Hulton area yesterday and also attended local schools to deliver inputs to students.

Operation AVRO is a force wide initiative that delivers extra resources and specialist officers to a different district within Greater Manchester each month and launched in Salford in October 2021.

Since then, it has travelled around the force with the operation targeting crimes and concerns that members of the public in that district have told GMP give them the most concern.

Chief Inspector Simon Ashcroft, of our Salford district, stated yesterday: “Operation AVRO is in full swing across the city of Salford. You will see increased patrols in the area, high visibility operations, a significant shoplifting and retail theft operation targeting theft from stores, identifying and bringing offenders of those types of crimes to justice.

“Ongoing throughout the day you will see this continuing, so please don’t be alarmed, please feel free to approach the officers, engage with them, have that conversation – they are here to engage with the community, they are your local officers and they want to speak to you.”
