Artists will soon be able to test their unusual performance-based work in front of a live audience at the Islington Mill.
The monthly alternative ‘Scratch Nights’ at the Islington Mill on James Street are set to be “one hell of a conversation starter.”
Launched by local artist-led organisation Short Supply, the ‘Scratch Nights’ are committed to the “weird and wonderful” local artists who often get left behind.
Director of Short Supply Mollie Balshaw: “Live art doesn’t get the spotlight it deserves in the region, in our view.”

“Manchester and Salford are known for world-class musicians, but there’s little support for those whose work crosses multiple sectors. We know that cross-sector collaboration creates a better audience experience and enriches the sector as a whole, so we thought why not create something that encourages that.”
The artists presenting work are Amina B, Rachel Barry and TRIP, with their work spanning live painting, clowning, DJing, keyboard, drumming and spoken word.
The first ‘Scratch Night’ commences on May 30 at the Mirage Bar in the mill.
Artists can apply for free and if selected will be paid £100 to perform their 20 minute set.
