A new development hub for gaming companies has launched in MediaCityUK this week.
The company, GameTech 365, focuses on the growth of small gaming companies and helps them with the skills they need to develop.
GameTech 365 held their launch event at Host Salford on Monday (March 25).
Mo Isap the CEO of In4 Group commented: “You can tell the love and the passion (GameTech) has for the industry, it is absolutely infectious.
“Salford is an affirmative atmosphere and that’s seen in MediaCityUK and that encouragement fuels us.”
He later spoke about GameTech trying to build a community that thrives in every sector and he hopes to make Salford gaming organisations get their projects out there.
Salford Mayor Paul Dennett spoke about why having GameTech365 was important in Salford stating that it contributes to the financial growth of the city. The Mayor referenced Shenzhen in China and spoke about how it changed from a fishing village to one of China’s biggest financial hubs.
The Mayor stated that he wished to turn “Salford into the UK Shenzhen”. He hopes to see the financial growth in Salford through companies like GameTech.
Roxana Lawton, The Director of Innovation programme at GameTech said that they intend to “support companies that sit in that kind of immersive technology.
“We’re here to support that industry, the new entrants and those kinds of indie studios.” He also added that there is no start or finish to the project.
When speaking about immersive technology such as VR, Roxana said GameTech hope to aid the technology development but it’s not really their area as they’re more focused on business hygiene.
Steven Fry, the Director of Digital at Salford City Council spoke about how the council are planning for the future with this industry.
He spoke about improving “connectivity” and “networking” in Salford in order to make better connections for the city.
Dr Maria Stukoff, Director of The Maker Space at Salford University, spoke about how she is using Game development for education, saying: “We use it to cross borders, the next generation can all work together and help each other out to have a close community of developers”.
Simon Benson the Director of Immersive technologies at In4 group further added on to Maria’s point by speaking about pods and discords he has set up in order to get people talking and asking questions to improve their knowledge.
Whilst the games that are being developed in the GameTech building are all still in early development the games look promising and it will be something to keep an eye on if you’re interested in games.
