Here are some of Salford’s top boxing prospects that are putting Salford back on the map, from up-and-coming boxers to title holders or boxers going undefeated.
Lewis Woods
Lewis Wood is the Central Area Super Featherweight champion after winning the title on the BlackFlash promotions 10th-anniversary show in December.
Wood, 29, won the title after a thrilling ten-round scrap with Liverpudlian boxer John Edo. Wood pushed through to come back to win after going down in the second round.
Lewis is the only current title holder in Salford with his first title defence now locked in at the Bowler’s Exhibition Centre on the April 27 with his opponent yet to be announced.
Wood made his pro debut in 2021 against Ricky Leach to win over four rounds on points and now boasts a 7 – 2 record.
Alex Murphy
The super lightweight boxer is one of Salford’s biggest names in boxing. Currently, he holds an impressive 10 – 0 pro record since making his debut in 2021, at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre winning against Ricky Leach on points.
Since making his pro debut the orthodox boxer has never lost a round, the young 23-year-old has won all 44 rounds of his career.
The wanderer had an impressive year in 2023 by staying active with a total of five fights throughout the year. Looking back on his year, the boxer posted on Instagram to say: “A successful and happy year for me 5 fights 5 wins 5 holidays. Plenty of opportunities taken”.
Murphy is an all-round boxer and definitely a ticket seller being backed strongly by Bolton Wanderers fans as the boxer is a proud wanderer.
The club has backed the white with even the owner Sharron Brittan going along to watch one of his fights.
Roman Fury
The heavyweight with a heavy legacy of the last name Fury, Roman is the son of John Fury and brother to Tyson and Tommy Fury.
Fury holds a gleaming record of 4 – 0 with one of the four wins coming by way of knock out against Martin Svarc, who had a similar record of 2 – 0 in Saudi Arabi, on the Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou undercard.
Romans’s first fight came in October 2022 when he beat Ryan Hibbert over four rounds in Doncaster to win on points 40 – 36.
The 27-year-old boxer has never lost a round in the pro ranks. The public was first introduced to the southpaw boxer in a villa when he went with mum Chantal to see brother Tommy in the 2019 series of Love Island.
Marc Leach
The 30-year-old southpaw is teasing a fight date creeping up on his Instagram now that his shin splints are gone.
He holds a record of 18 – 3 – 1 record with 4kos since making his debut in 2014.
Leach captured the vacant British super-bantamweight title in 2022 with fellow Salfordians congratulating him over social media such as Angel Gomes: “@march_leach the whole of Salford is with you! You’ve done your estate proud, what a performance!!”
