Following Salford City’s 3-1 win against Morecambe, Karl Robinson highlighted that his team still has room for improvement despite their impressive performance.
Speaking to the press after the game, Robinson suggested that The Ammies are still “way off where they want to be, we’ve still got to be better in a lot of areas.”
In the past, the Salford City Boss has said that the club would look to be active in the summer transfer window to fill ‘areas lacking in quality’.
Although the club are expected to bring in several players with the aim of major improvement next season, naturally, there will be numerous outgoings as the club looks to reshape the playing squad.
For many of The Ammies’ fringe players, this campaign’s run-in is an opportunity to impress the Salford boss as he decides which players will be important to the club next season.
Robinson made 5 changes from the side that drew 2-2 with Stockport County, looking to inject some energy into The Ammies performance. He was especially impressed by the levels of fitness, application and quality shown by the two players:
“Adrien Mariappa and Connor McLennan especially have shown a sense of quality and a level of fitness that you don’t necessarily expect when they’ve not been playing. It just shows that they live their lives to play football.”
Robinson has offered more opportunities to academy graduates and young players since his arrival, against Morecambe 19-year-old Jez Davies made his debut for the club.

Salford City had led 2-0 against Stockport before being pegged back. Robinson admitted feeling uneasy as Morecambe pulled a goal back when 2-0 down. “I said to (Alex) Bruce I wonder if we can see this one out. I just think we showed a tremendous level of calmness.”
Robinson stressed the importance of maintaining high standards to his Salford City players this week, “I’ve spoken to them at great length about standards, we need to deliver that standard of performance week in and week out. The work we do off the grass and what we do in training does spill over.”
If Salford City can replicate their impressive win against Morecambe, the side will be well-placed to pick up all 3 points against an out-of-form Notts County. The Ammies will travel to Meadow Lane to take on The Magpies this Saturday (Kick-off is at 3pm.)
