Irlam FC raised more than £400 for the Dementia Friends charity in their win against Bury last weekend.
Irlam supporters, Bury visiting supporters, players and more donated money to the Alzheimer’s charity and joined in with the club’s fundraiser.
A bucket collection, along with personal donations and £100 from Irlam FC, raised a total of £445.80 at their home ground on Silver Street.
The referee, Jamie Dolphin, also donated his match fee.
The goalkeeping staff and goalkeeper for Irlam wore gloves, boasting the Dementia Friends logo on the straps.

It was Irlam FC’s goalkeeping coach Adam Green, who organised the fundraiser and he spoke on his personal relationship to the charity, saying:
“My Grandma is in a nursing home at the minute with dementia and has had a few day trips which has all been because of Dementia Friends and Dementia UK so it’s very close to me.
“The goalkeeping gloves are produced by a friend of mine, who was associated with the charity through a family member, so it’s close to both of us. It’s a great thing to have them on the gloves, and I thought why don’t we try to raise some money for a really good cause.”
He thought the total was ‘fantastic’ and spoke on how the club will continue to support the charity in the future, saying:
“It’s something we are going to continue to support as a football club, we are planning to have a collection bucket at all times in the bar and the club from now until the end of the season, to see what else we can contribute for the charity.”
Alzheimer’s Society Community Fundraiser Jade Trafford said: “We are so grateful that Irlam FC raised £450 in support of Alzheimer’s Society. Each hour people generously give to fundraise for us, every event they take part in, every pound they donate, they’re making a life-changing difference to people living with dementia.
“Alzheimer’s Society provides vital support to people living with dementia, funds groundbreaking research and campaigns to make dementia the priority it should be. Together, we will end the devastation caused by dementia.
“There are around 30,000 people living with dementia in Greater Manchester, but we simply can’t reach everyone without the continued support of our incredible fundraisers like Irlam FC.”
