Swinton and Worsley residents have been warned to keep their windows and doors shut as firefighters continue to tackle a major fire at Wardley Industrial Estate.
The blaze broke out on the industrial estate at around 8pm last night (March 4). Firefighters have been working through the night and fire engines remain at the scene.
Nearby road closures are currently in place, including at Holloway Drive, Unit 3b and the Amazon warehouse.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At just before 8pm yesterday evening, eight fire engines from Farnworth, Agecroft, Eccles, Salford, Whitefield, and Atherton fire stations as well as the technical response unit from Ashton and turntable ladder from Farnworth fire station were called to reports of a fire involving a container and a single storey industrial unit at Wardley Industrial Estate, Worsley.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two jets to quickly extinguish the fire. Crews have worked through the night to damp down any remaining hot spots to ensure the safety of the surrounding area.
“Two fire engines from Farnworth and Agecroft fire stations are currently in attendance at the scene working alongside partner agencies to resolve the incident.
“Residents and businesses in the surrounding area are advised to keep windows and doors closed and avoid the scene while crews carry out their work.”
