Metro Bank has submitted planning applications to open a new site in Salford Quays, in place of a current Indian restaurant.
A planning application is under consideration for Metro Bank to open a new site in Salford Quays. The bank will be located in 1 Capital Quay, and replacing the current occupants of the unit, Shahi Masala, an Indian restaurant.
The application says that Metro Bank are aiming to open more sites in a time when banks are closing across the UK. They aim to offer jobs to the local economy and bring tangible benefits to the community.
Capital Quay is a largely vacant commercial site in Salford Quays, with a pub The Matchstick Man being the only company still currently trading on the plot. The site had most recently been occupied by Chiquito and Frankie’s and Benny’s.
However, Starbucks are set to join Metro Bank as new occupants on the site, as reported by Salford Now earlier this year.
The application proposes to fully redesign the property with a new flat roof, installation of a totem sign, an ATM, a security door and security bollards.
Metro Bank is a relatively new banking company, having opened in 2010 as the UK’s first high street bank to open in over 100 years.
Metro Bank have claimed that a new branch would offer 10 new full-time jobs, offering a future in the financial sector.
The site is located conveniently opposite the Salford Quays tram stop as well as being just off Trafford Road and surrounded by a number of residential buildings. The proposed construction will have no impact on the amenity of the residents.
The earliest date that a decision can be made is March 22, however, the target date set for a decision is April 16.
