Red Devils fans are thrilled as Salford City Council has taken over the lease on the AJ Bell Stadium.
The takeover now means that the full development is expected to create around 790 new jobs and deliver £28 million worth of social value.
This new lease of hope has given the fans something to celebrate and below are some of the fans reactions posted on social media.
‘Napper1984’ commented on the stadium takeover and said: “We have somewhere we can call home. Now bring on them Rhinos Friday.”
‘Graham Jones’ on X (formally known as Twitter) said: “150 years the club has been at the heart of it’s local community. A club who put back so much into it’s local community.”
Another comment made on X by a devoted fan ‘Rachel Todd’ said: “This was the biggest result for the club this week!”
Here is what the Salford Mayor (Paul Dennett) had to say about the purchase:
Today @SalfordCouncil has agreed a decision to take full ownership of the #Salford Community Stadium. I am delighted that we are nearing conclusion of months of painstaking discussions. Shirley Bradshaw of the Salford RLFC Supporters Trust said: “We are Salford and we want to stay in Salford.”
However some backlash has been caused by the deal as some Salford residents are unhappy about where the money is actually coming from.
‘Mole45’ on X replied to the emerging news and said: “Where is the money coming from? The stadium is and always will be a money pit.”
He also carried on to say: “Sorry the Mayor may be happy dressing up, the rest of us are worried.”
Overall, many are optimistic about the developing plans for the stadium and have high hopes for the game against Leeds Rhinos on Friday.
