Salford City has become home to the first dedicated futsal centre in the North West which has opened in Ordsall Leisure Centre.
The centre hopes to revolutionise futsal in Salford with the Premier League, the FA and Government’s Football Foundation delivering a grant of £190k.
With Salford City Council also provided a £127k investment, which will go towards the construction of new changing rooms and an education space.
The council aims to support and nurture local talent, with the centre hoping to serve as an inclusive hub for promoting future footballers.
With the excitement surrounding the newly funded project, they held an opening event with attendees being showcased and an exciting demonstration by children from Lightoaks Junior School.
Councillor Barbara Bentham, Lead Member for Environment, Neighbourhoods, Sports and Leisure said: “I am thrilled to see yet another first for Salford as we open the North West’s only dedicated futsal facility.
“In Salford, we are committed to promoting sports and physical activity, and I want to encourage our residents to come down to Ordsall to give it a try.”

The event was also visited by the Chief Executive Officer of the Manchester FA, Colin Bridgford, who spoke positively about what the new project will offer.
Colin added: “Engaging with local clubs and local leagues is really important and it makes people aware that we have a dedicated futsal centre and court in Salford.
“It has been pleasing to see the direction that the local authority in Salford City Council and Salford Community Leisure, have taken on this with the support of ourselves, the FA and the Football Foundation. It just proves you can do it, if you put your mind to it.”
With the council and the FA working closely with the Football Foundation, Robert Sullivan, the Chief Executive of the Football Foundation also commented on the arena.
He added: “The Football Foundation is working closely with our partners of the Premier League, The FA and Government to transform the quality of grassroots facilities in England, by delivering projects like this across the country.”
The Football Foundation is the charity of the Premier League, The FA and Government and since its creation in the 2000 it’s aim is to deliver outstanding grassroot facilities.
Since it’s creation it has invested over £1 billion to improve these facilities across the country, with,100 3G football turf pitches, 12,000 grass pitches and 1,400 changing rooms being installed.
Positive investment back into the community has since attracted £1.3 billion of partnership funding that totals over £2 billion in investment into grassroots.
Robert Sullivan added:“Good quality playing facilities have a transformative impact on physical and mental health and play an important role in bringing people together and strengthening local communities.”
