An Eccles park on Ivy Street has been awarded £40,000 by the Greater Manchester Green Spaces fund to develop a sensory garden.
Ivy Street park is a small recreation area that features plenty of green spaces and a small children’s playground.
The Greater Manchester Green Spaces fund has awarded the Eccles park just under £40,000 to develop a sensory garden.
The local authority has said: “We hope this is just the beginning to bring about change, to make Ivy Park a space which our local community can enjoy.”
A sensory garden is a contained area that attempts to appeal to the five senses and stimulate them individually and together. Sensory gardens are also designed with the intention to encourage visitors to consciously explore and experience nature in a way they might not be used to.
The Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund is worth £2.6million and is set up to give small grants to communities to both improve local green spaces as well as build new ones.
The maximum grant that can be received by one community is £40,000.
The latest batch of community-led projects to receive GM Green Spaces Fund backing have been announced, meaning that almost £2m has now gone towards nature recovery projects driven by local people right across Greater Manchester! 🌳🍄🐝https://t.co/p2bxTrvoX9 #GMGreenCity
