The new and uplifting (quite literally) theatre production of 42 Balloons will premiere at the Lowry Theatre in Salford this spring.

Writer Jack Godfrey has based the new musical on the real-life LA truck driver Larry Walter’s ambitions of flying in a lawn chair attached to 42 weather balloons. Through energetic ’80s songs and an exciting plot, the show follows his incredible journey of love and, above all, “imagination beyond belief”.

At the press launch this Thursday (January 25) cast members performed a snippet of the ’80s pop-inspired music to an exclusive audience at The Lowry.

The team showcased an electric soundtrack which will feature at The Lowry from April 18–May 19 2024.

Producer Andy Barnes said: “The music brings you in. The songs have a real balance of nostalgia with an incredible story.”

Writer Godfrey said: “I connected with Larry’s story and I think so many other people will. We all have our dreams.”

After having many successful shows in the West End, Andy Barnes saw what The Lowry has to offer.

Andy added: “The teams here (in Salford) are fantastic, and it’s a privilege to be housed here in what will be the world premiere and what will be an exciting time for all of us.”

Tickets for the show are currently available here
